Shopmobility Lisburn is an independent charity in Northern Ireland, serving the local Lisburn community and those who visit the city centre and Sprucefield centre, who have a disability or mobility problem.
Established over 23 years ago, they currently have a board of 6 trustees who help the charity manager work to their goals and objectives.
After a difficult few years from the Covid 19 pandemic, it has taken time to get back to the strong position that they currently are at, as many volunteers have left and funding has been hard to obtain.
Shopmobility Lisburn rely heavily on donations and funding to meet their objectives to deliver the best service to the community.
This can be more challenging compared to other schemes as they sit as the lowest funded scheme in Northern Ireland from the Dept. for Infrastructure and are required to seek other funding avenues for core costs before getting to concentrate on projects funds. They are considered as being the end of the line in the public transport sector.
The scheme are currently working on a bespoke training programme from LCCC looking to restructure and rebrand the charity in the next 6months. This has already started with Governance training with the board.
Excitingly they aim to open a city centre location which will better meet the needs of their service users.
Your donations will be a tremendous help towards making this project happen.
In return your support helps us deliver our services to the most vulnerable in our communities, those who deserve independence to get around the city and our shopping centres, to socialise with friends, to go for a meal or a coffee , to attend a GP appointment or take a scoot around one of the beautiful parks we have right on our doorstep.
Overall, this free service, helps reduce social isolation, improves community wellbeing via the service user , their family and friends and carers, along with helping the local economy.
