In recent months, from anecdotal evidence, it was felt that parking ‘challenges’ in Lisburn had reached a level that was now becoming detrimental to operating a business in the city centre.
In contrast, out-of-town retailers have no such parking problems.
To validate what the Chamber was hearing from a few retailers, it was decided to survey city centre businesses through a short questionnaire. This was undertaken over the last two weeks of October.
On the evidence of the responses received, we now believe the key issues to progress are:
- 1 hour free on-street parking (currently metered parking administered by DFI)
- Build increased understanding of parking enforcement with a view to reduce complaints
- A retailer delivery scheme like the Blue Badge and/or re-positioning of the current delivery bays or creation of further delivery bays
The Chamber will now write to the key stakeholders: LCCC, DfI and elected representatives to share the results of this survey and progress workable solutions to the identified problems.
